2026 Spring Festivals in Budapest: What Not to Miss

Hungary Guide EditorsApril 20268 min read

Spring arrives late in Budapest, but it arrives spectacularly. From mid-March through to the end of April the city shakes off its winter coat and fills its streets, concert halls and riverbanks with one of the most varied arts and cultural programmes in Central Europe.

Budapest Spring Festival

Running for three weeks from late March, the Spring Festival is Hungary's flagship arts event. Over 200 events take place across the city — classical concerts in the Liszt Academy and Opera House, folk dance performances, outdoor stages in main squares. Tickets from €10 at bof.hu. Free outdoor stages at Kossuth Square.

National Day — March 15

One of Hungary's three national holidays marks the 1848 revolution against Habsburg rule. Military parades and speeches at Parliament. Spectacular fireworks over the Danube at 9pm — best viewed from the Pest embankment.

Easter in Hollókő

The UNESCO village of Hollókő holds a traditional Easter festival — folk costumes, hand-painted eggs and the water-dousing custom (locsolás). 1 hour 30 minutes from Budapest by car. Arrive by 10am.
