Budapest Airport to the City: Every Transfer Option (2026)

You've landed at Liszt Ferenc International (BUD), about 24 km southeast of central Budapest. Here's every realistic way to get into town — ranked from cheapest to most convenient — with honest prices, journey times and what each option is actually best for.

Cheapest

Bus 100E — direct to the centre

The 100E airport shuttle runs roughly every 20 minutes direct to Deák Ferenc tér in central Pest, stopping at Kálvin tér on the way. The ride takes 30–40 minutes and a ticket costs around 2,200 HUF.

You need the dedicated 100E ticket — standard BKK singles and travelcards are not valid. Buy it at the purple BKK machine at the bus stop outside Terminal 2, or in the BudapestGO app before you board.

Rock-bottom alternative: Bus 200E to Kőbánya-Kispest (regular BKK ticket, ~450 HUF), then metro M3 into town. Slower and a transfer, but the cheapest way in.

Official Shuttle

miniBUD — door-to-door shared shuttle

miniBUD is the airport's official shared shuttle, dropping you at your exact address in Budapest. From around 2,490 HUF per person, runs 24/7, and you book online ahead of your flight.

Because it's shared with other passengers it's slower than a taxi — you may wait briefly and make a few stops on the way. Budapest Card holders get 20% off.

Best for: late arrivals, families, heavy luggage, or anywhere not near the 100E route — without paying full taxi prices.

Fast Door-to-Door

Taxi & ride-hail (Bolt, Uber/Főtaxi)

For the fastest door-to-door ride, use Bolt or Uber (which operates in Budapest via Főtaxi). Expect ~9,000–10,000 HUF to central Pest and 25–40 minutes depending on traffic.

Important: only book via the app, or use the official taxi rank outside the terminal. Never accept rides from anyone approaching you inside the airport — those are unlicensed touts. Licensed Budapest taxis are yellow, metered, and accept cards.

Self-Drive

Rent a car at the airport

Picking up a car at BUD makes sense if you're heading straight out of the city — to Lake Balaton, Eger, Tokaj or a road trip — rather than into central Budapest, where parking and traffic make a car more hassle than it's worth. See our road-trip guides for routes.

FAQ

Budapest Airport Transfers — FAQ

What is the cheapest way to get from Budapest Airport to the city?

Bus 100E goes direct to Deák Ferenc tér in central Budapest for about 2,200 HUF and takes 30–40 minutes. You need the dedicated 100E ticket — standard BKK single tickets and travelcards are not valid. The rock-bottom option is bus 200E to Kőbánya-Kispest, then metro line M3 to the centre on a regular BKK ticket.

Is miniBUD worth it?

miniBUD is the airport's official door-to-door shared shuttle — book online from around 2,490 HUF per person and they drop you at your exact address. It's cheaper than a taxi for one or two people, runs 24/7, and Budapest Card holders get 20% off. The trade-off is time: because it's shared, you may wait for other passengers and make several stops. Best for late arrivals, heavy luggage, or anywhere off the 100E route.

How much does a taxi from Budapest Airport to the city cost?

A taxi or ride-hail (Bolt, or Uber via Főtaxi) from BUD to central Pest typically runs 9,000–10,000 HUF and takes 25–40 minutes depending on traffic. Always book through the app at the official taxi rank — never accept rides from touts in the terminal. Licensed Budapest taxis are yellow, metered, and accept cards.

Does the 100E airport bus need a special ticket?

Yes. The 100E uses a dedicated airport shuttle ticket (about 2,200 HUF), sold at the BKK machines at the airport bus stop and via the BudapestGO app. Standard BKK singles, 10-packs and 24/72-hour travelcards are NOT valid on the 100E. The 200E to Kőbánya-Kispest does take a normal BKK ticket.

Is there 24-hour transport from Budapest Airport?

Yes. The 100E runs roughly every 20 minutes through the day and night bus 900 covers the gap in the small hours. miniBUD operates 24/7, and Bolt/Főtaxi run all night. The metro stops around midnight, so for late arrivals the shuttle or a ride-hail is usually easiest.
